The Meyer Trivantage is a completely uncoated, nickel-free stainless steel tawa a meaningful difference for anyone with a nickel sensitivity, since standard stainless steel contains nickel as part of its alloy. Beyond that, it’s built as a genuine tri-ply: three bonded layers with an aluminium core, which is what gives it even heat distribution rather than the hot spots typical of thin, single-layer steel.
At 28cm, it’s sized for everyday dosas and rotis on a medium gas or induction burner. Because it carries no non-stick coating at all, it needs a bit more oil and a proper preheat, but in exchange you get a surface that can’t peel, chip, or degrade over years of use.

- Season before first use: heat the tawa on medium, add a generous amount of oil until it just starts to smoke, wipe away, let cool, and repeat twice.
- Always preheat before adding oil and food properly preheated stainless steel releases food far better than a cold surface.
- Use more oil than you would on a non-stick tawa, since there’s no coating to reduce sticking.
- Wash with mild dish soap and a sponge after every use stainless steel is fully soap-safe.
- If food sticks and burns, a steel wool pad or stainless steel scrubber is fine to use, unlike on any coated surface.
- A bluish or rainbow discolouration from heat is normal and harmless a brief simmer with diluted white vinegar removes it.
