Product Details

Cast iron and dosas have a relationship as old as South Indian cooking itself and the Tramontina Titanex Cast Iron Dosa Tawa brings that traditional cooking surface together with the precision and quality of one of the world’s most respected cookware manufacturers.

Made from high-quality cast iron with Tramontina’s Titanex seasoning, this tawa comes ready to use pre-seasoned with food-grade oil so you do not have to go through the initial conditioning process yourself before your first dosa.
Cast iron retains heat far better than aluminium or steel once it reaches the right temperature it stays there consistently, which is exactly what you need for making multiple thin dosas in succession without the surface losing heat between each one.
Over time and with regular use, a cast iron dosa tawa develops a natural non-stick surface that actually improves the more you use it and season it, the better it gets, which is the exact opposite of a conventional non-stick tawa that degrades over time.
The single handle design gives you good control and easy manoeuvring on the stove important when working with a heavy cast iron piece and needing to tilt or adjust the tawa during cooking.
No synthetic coatings, no PTFE, no PFOA cast iron cooking is the cleanest, most natural cooking surface available, and with Tramontina’s manufacturing quality it is also one of the most durable.

If you want dosas with that authentic, slightly crispy texture that only cast iron can give and are ready to invest in a tawa that will last for decades, the Tramontina Titanex is the one to choose.

Features

The Tramontina Titanex Cast Iron Dosa Tawa offers everything that made cast iron the preferred cooking surface for generations with Tramontina’s precision manufacturing ensuring the quality and consistency that traditional cast iron sometimes lacks.

Pre-Seasoned Titanex Finish Comes ready to use with Tramontina’s proprietary Titanex seasoning applied at the factory no lengthy initial seasoning process required before your first use.
Superior Heat Retention Cast iron holds heat far longer and more steadily than aluminium or steel ideal for consistent dosa cooking when the surface temperature cannot drop between spreads.
Naturally Improving Non-Stick With regular use and proper seasoning, the cooking surface becomes progressively more non-stick over time unlike synthetic coatings that degrade with use.
No Synthetic Coating Zero PTFE, zero PFOA, zero synthetic chemicals the most natural and safest cooking surface available for daily food preparation.
Iron Enrichment in Food Cast iron cookware is known to impart trace amounts of dietary iron to food a natural health benefit particularly valuable for those with low iron levels.
Single Handle for Control The single long handle gives you good leverage and control over the heavy tawa important for tilting and adjusting on the stove during a dosa session.
Exceptional Durability Cast iron does not warp, does not peel, and does not degrade a well-maintained Tramontina Titanex tawa can genuinely last a lifetime.
Gas and Induction Compatible The cast iron base works on gas flames and induction cooktops versatile enough for any kitchen setup.
Authentic Dosa Texture The cast iron surface produces dosas with that slightly crispy, golden-brown texture that cast iron is uniquely capable of delivering something no non-stick tawa can fully replicate.
Tramontina Quality Control Over a century of manufacturing experience ensures the casting quality and surface finish are consistent far more reliable than generic cast iron from unknown brands.

Care Instructions

Cast iron care is slightly different from non-stick or stainless steel but once you know the routine it takes very little time and the results of good cast iron maintenance are a tawa that keeps improving with every use.

Rinse with Hot Water After Use Do not use soap on a seasoned cast iron tawa it strips the seasoning. Rinse with hot water and scrub gently with a stiff brush or the rough side of a non-metal sponge.
Dry Immediately and Thoroughly Cast iron rusts quickly if left wet. After rinsing, dry the tawa on the stove over a low flame for two to three minutes to ensure all moisture has evaporated.
Oil After Every Use While the tawa is still warm after drying, rub a thin layer of cooking oil over the entire cooking surface with a paper towel. This is the most important step in cast iron maintenance.
Re-Season Periodically Every few months, apply a layer of oil, heat the tawa in an oven or on a gas flame until it smokes slightly, then let it cool. This deep-seasons the surface and restores its non-stick properties.
Remove Rust Spots Quickly If you notice rust forming (usually from leaving the tawa wet), scrub the affected area with a steel wool pad, wash with soap just this once to remove the rust, dry completely, and re-season immediately.
Avoid Acidic Foods in Early Use Tomato-based or highly acidic dishes can strip seasoning in the early months of use. Wait until the tawa is well-seasoned before cooking very acidic foods on it.
Use Dry Cloths Only for Wiping Never wipe a cast iron tawa with a wet cloth during cooking water hitting a very hot cast iron surface creates steam that can displace seasoning from the surface.
Store Dry in a Well-Ventilated Space Keep the tawa in a dry cabinet or hanging position moisture in storage is the main enemy of cast iron cookware.
