This Hawkins Futura tawa is built specifically for dosa-making, not adapted from a general-purpose tawa. The heavy-gauge aluminium base holds heat steadily while you spread the batter thin, which is what actually determines whether a dosa turns out crisp and even or patchy in the middle.
The non-stick coating is PFOA-free, so the batter spreads easily, lifts cleanly once cooked, and needs only a light oiling between rounds. At a larger diameter than a standard roti tawa, it’s sized for proper full-sized, restaurant-style dosas rather than smaller ones.
Compare this with the rest of our Tawa range, or check the Vistaya homepage for current offers.
- Heavy-Gauge Aluminium Base The thicker-than-average base retains and distributes heat steadily, which is essential for even, crispy dosas.
- Large Dosa Diameter Sized for full, restaurant-style thin dosas, with room to spread batter in the traditional circular motion.
- PFOA-Free Non-Stick Coating Batter spreads and lifts cleanly without oil buildup, even across multiple dosas in one session.
- Minimal Oil Needed: A light brush of oil between dosas is better for health and less messy than uncoated tawas.
- Consistent Heat Retention The heavy gauge means the surface doesn’t lose temperature the moment the batter hits it.
- Gas Stove Optimised Performs best on gas, where the wide base covers the flame and the heavy gauge spreads heat evenly.
- Hawkins Futura Quality Part of the trusted Futura range from Hawkins, a brand that’s been in Indian kitchens for over six decades.
Available sizes: 28cm, 28cm (induction compatible), 30cm, 30cm (induction compatible), 33cm
Material: Heavy-gauge aluminium with PFOA-free non-stick coating
- During a dosa session, wipe the tawa with a damp cloth between rounds instead of washing each time; do a full soap wash once you’re done cooking.
- Let the tawa cool completely before washing it properly sudden cold water on a hot surface can stress the base over time.
- Use a soft cloth or sponge only; steel wool or rough scrubbers will damage the non-stick coating.
- Before your first dosa session, heat the tawa and rub it lightly with half an onion dipped in oil this is the traditional way to condition a new dosa tawa.
- If the batter dries and sticks at the edges, soak the tawa in warm water for 10 minutes rather than scraping it off.
- Dry it thoroughly and let it stand for a minute before storing, since a larger tawa takes longer to air-dry than a smaller one.
