Product Details

Vinod has been making cast iron cookware for Indian households for decades, and the Cast Iron Flat Tawa 30cm is the brand’s full-sized flat cast iron offering a large, serious dosa tawa that brings the Vinod quality standard to one of the most traditional cooking surfaces in Indian cooking.

At 30cm this is a full-sized professional dosa tawa wide enough for large, thin, restaurant-style dosas with plenty of room for the batter to be spread in the traditional wide circular motion without running off the edge.
Made from heavy-gauge cast iron with a pre-seasoned surface, it is ready for use from the start the Vinod seasoning means you skip the most intimidating part of starting with cast iron and get straight to making dosas.
Cast iron at 30cm retains an extraordinary amount of heat once brought to the right temperature, it stays there consistently through a long family dosa breakfast without the temperature fluctuations that cause inconsistent cooking on thinner tawas.
The natural cast iron surface develops a non-stick patina with regular use and proper maintenance no synthetic coating required and no coating to replace just a cooking surface that keeps getting better the more you use it.
No PTFE, no PFOA, no synthetic chemicals cooking on Vinod cast iron is as close to natural cooking as you can get, with the added benefit of trace dietary iron being added to food with every cooking session.

For large South Indian families where dosa is a daily ritual and the tawa needs to handle serious volume, the Vinod Cast Iron Flat Tawa 30cm is the large-format traditional choice.

Care Instructions

Vinod cast iron care follows the same essential cast iron principles a short daily routine that becomes second nature quickly and results in a tawa that keeps improving with every session.

Hot Water and Brush After Every Use Rinse with hot water and use a stiff brush to remove all batter residue from the 30cm surface. No soap soap strips the seasoning that makes cast iron perform.
Stove Dry for Three to Four Minutes After rinsing, return to a medium flame for three to four minutes to drive out all moisture from the full 30cm surface. Complete drying is essential for rust prevention.
Oil the Entire Surface After Drying While still warm, cover the entire 30cm cooking surface with a thin layer of cooking oil applied with a paper towel. This step takes 30 seconds and is the most important maintenance habit.
Also Oil the Underside The underside of the tawa is often forgotten but is equally important to oil rust can start on the underside just as easily as on the cooking surface.
Deep Season Monthly Apply oil to the entire tawa and heat on the stove until the oil smokes lightly, then let it cool completely. Monthly deep seasoning keeps the 30cm surface in excellent condition.
Use Both Hands When Moving A 30cm cast iron tawa is one of the heaviest pieces of cookware you will handle. Always use thick dry cloths or oven mitts over both hands when lifting or repositioning.
Address Rust Without Panic Any rust that forms is completely reversible. Scrub with steel wool, do one soap wash to clear all rust residue, stove dry thoroughly, and re-season. The tawa will cook perfectly again.
Store Flat on a Dry Shelf The 30cm tawa is too large for most hanging racks. Store flat on a dry kitchen shelf with a paper towel underneath dry storage with good air circulation is all it needs.

I bought this for my mother who has been wanting a large cast iron dosa tawa for years. She was initially worried about the weight but with proper handling techniques she has gotten comfortable with it. She says the dosas are the best she has made since her grandmother's cast iron tawa from 40 years ago. The heat retention and the natural surface together produce something that no modern non-stick tawa can match. A wonderful gift for any serious South Indian cook.

Excellent cast iron dosa tawa. The 30cm size is exactly right for proper large dosas and the heavy-gauge construction means the heat is very steady throughout a cooking session. I upgraded from a non-stick to this and the dosa texture is dramatically better cast iron gives that characteristic crispiness that no non-stick coating can replicate. The Vinod quality is consistent and the price is reasonable for a proper large cast iron piece. Highly recommend.

I make dosas for a family of six every morning and I needed a large, reliable cast iron tawa. The Vinod 30cm has been excellent the size is perfect for large dosas and the heat retention means I can work quickly through a full breakfast session without temperature dropping. The pre-seasoning was good quality and the surface has improved noticeably over four months of daily use. Vinod is a brand I have trusted for years and the cast iron tawa is as good as their other products.
